Fenerbahce manager, Jose Mourinho, has claimed that the Europa League final will have a “huge impact” on both winners Tottenham and runners-up Manchester United.
The all-English final saw Ange Postecoglou’s men win 1-0, thanks to Brennan Johnson’s goal, ending a 17-year wait for Spurs to lift a major trophy and qualifying them for next season’s Champions League.
For Manchester United, the defeat capped off a miserable campaign that saw them finish in 15th place in the Premier League.
“For the fans, the players and Ange, it’s a title,” Mourinho told Sky Sports.
“Yes, the game was not amazing but they made history for Tottenham because Tottenham didn’t have a trophy for so many years.”
“From what I read – just what I read – the impact on United of course is huge in the sense of for how many years has United are not involved in any European competition,” he added.
