Muslims Key To State Harmony, Says Cross River Commissioner

CALABAR, NIGERIA – The Cross River State Government has congratulated Muslims on the 2025 Eid-el-Kabir celebration, urging peace and tolerance.

Commissioner for Information, Erasmus Ekpang, said the festival highlights sacrifice, obedience to God, and devotion, as shown by Prophet Ibrahim.

“Eid-el-Kabir reminds us of submission and faith,” Ekpang stated, emphasizing its spiritual value in the Islamic calendar.

He urged Muslims to be kind, patient, and peaceful with people of other religions in the spirit of the celebration.

Ekpang praised peaceful coexistence in the state, crediting Muslims and other faiths for fostering harmony and social stability.

“The peace we enjoy stems from mutual respect and shared values,” he said, noting the state’s inclusive religious environment.

He commended Governor Bassey Edet Otu’s leadership for sustaining unity through a ‘People First’ administration.

“We appreciate Muslim faithfuls’ support and solidarity. This strengthens our resolve to build a better Cross River,” Ekpang added.

He advised residents to celebrate modestly and avoid actions that contradict communal values or economic realities.

In a statement, Ekpang concluded, “Let us uphold peace, love, and moderation as we celebrate this significant Islamic festival.”
