CROSS RIVER, OBUDU – Hon. (Chief) Dr. Peter Akpanke has resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), citing leadership failure and ideological collapse.

Akpanke represents Obudu/Bekwarra/Obanliku Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and chairs key House subcommittees.

He is Deputy Chairman, House Committee on FCT Area Councils and Ancillary Matters, with broad legislative responsibilities.

Akpanke also serves on committees handling debt management, anti-corruption, public petitions, education, banking regulations, and Niger Delta development.

In a letter dated June 2, 2025, Akpanke addressed his resignation to the PDP chairman, Bendi Ward 1, Cross River state.

He wrote, “The PDP has descended into a state of discord and fragmentation due to persistent internal leadership crises.”

Akpanke said the once cohesive platform had lost ideological clarity, unity, and its founding progressive vision for Nigeria.

“The resultant ideological deviation has crippled the party’s ability to fulfill its national purpose,” he said.

He noted that lack of internal harmony made the PDP incapable of leading a progressive geopolitical transformation Nigeria desperately needs.

Truth Live News learned that his resignation prioritizes the greater good over party loyalty, aiming at real progress for his constituents and Nigeria.

“I remain sincerely grateful for the platform PDP gave me to serve my people,” Akpanke acknowledged in the letter.

He wished the party and its members well, despite parting ways with the institution he once proudly represented.

Efforts to reach local PDP officials for comment were unsuccessful as of press time.
