The Niger Delta Congress (NDC) has vehemently condemned the abduction of its Founding National Chairman, Amanyie King, and other members of the organization.

The group has accused local political figures, including a local government area chairman and an aide to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, of being behind the kidnapping.

According to Sahara Reporters, in a statement issued on Tuesday, the NDC expressed deep concern and outrage over the incident, stating that it is a deliberate attack on the people of the Niger Delta region and their right to advocate for their interests.

The organization has demanded the immediate and unconditional release of the kidnapped leaders and called for a thorough investigation into the matter. The NDC has also criticized the silence of Governor Fubara on the kidnapping, warning that any further inaction could be seen as tacit approval of the perpetrators.

The kidnapping of Amanyie King and other NDC members has raised serious concerns about the security situation in the Niger Delta region. The incident has also highlighted the ongoing tensions between the government and some groups in the region.

The statement read, “Additionally, we are outraged to report that our current President, Saatah Nubari, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt while organizing and participating in the End Bad Governance protests in Rivers State, further highlighting the grave threat faced by our leadership and members.

“This coordinated assault on the NDC is a direct attack on the people of the Niger Delta. We demand the immediate and unconditional release of our kidnapped leaders and call for a full investigation into these heinous actions.

“The silence of the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara on this issue going forward, will be seen as tacit approval.

Ogboru said that NDC will not stand idly by as their rights and safety are threatened.

“We stand resolute in our commitment to fight against this tyranny and repression. We urge all citizens, civil society organizations, and human rights defenders to join us in denouncing these acts of violence and intimidation,” he said.

“Let it be clear: the NDC will not be silenced. We will persist in our mission to uphold democracy and advocate for the rights of the Niger Delta people, undeterred by these attempts to instil fear.”
