The senator representing Borno South, Ali Ndume has issued a stark warning to President Bola Tinubu, hinting at a possible exit from the All Progressives Congress (APC) if the administration fails to address Nigeria’s mounting challenges.

Speaking on Arise TV on Tuesday, Ndume, a former Senate Chief Whip, revealed he has attended opposition coalition meetings aimed at unseating Tinubu in 2027, signaling his growing discontent with the ruling party.

“I still believe this president can fix these things, but failure might cause me to move. The overloaded ship will sink,” Ndume said at 3:45 PM WAT, likening the APC to a vessel at risk of capsizing under Tinubu’s leadership. He criticized recent defections to the APC, attributing them to “stick-and-carrot politics” rather than genuine conviction, warning that such moves endanger the party’s stability.

Ndume, a vocal critic of Tinubu’s policies, expressed cautious optimism about the president’s potential but stressed the need for urgent action. “I don’t want to jump from the frying pan into the fire,” he noted, indicating he’s weighing opposition overtures but remains wary. His remarks have sparked debate across the nation where many have praised Ndume’s candor as a call for accountability, reflecting regional frustrations.

The senator’s critique comes amid economic woes and political defections rocking the APC. Ndume urged Tinubu to avoid “overloading the ship” with opportunistic allies, warning that a failure to stabilize could cost the party dearly. As 2027 looms, Ndume’s potential defection could reshape Nigeria’s political landscape, leaving APC faithful on edge.
