The Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has asserted that no money is missing from the student loan scheme, despite contrary claims.
NELFUND’s Managing Director, Akintunde Sawyerr, made this statement on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” program.
A recent report alleged that some schools were diverting funds meant for the scheme, prompting the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) to launch an investigation.
Sawyerr, however, established that the fund has a clean bill of health, stating, “No money has been stolen.
“The President established NELFUND to bridge the educational funding gap for those who cannot afford it.”
Sawyerr corrected misconceptions, affirming, “No N71 billion is missing.”
He acknowledged potential issues with human intervention but maintained that no funds are missing or stolen.
Sawyerr reiterated, “No money is missing. No money has been stolen.”
