The Edo State government has said that this year’s nation’s Independence Day celebration would be devoid of its usual funfair inline with the federal government’s directives.
The government, through a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Joseph Eboigbe, revealed that all the usual razzmatazz would be put on hold.
According to the statement “The Edo State Government hereby announces that the 64th Independence Day Celebration will be marked in a low-key manner in line with the Federal Government’s stance on the commemoration.
“As a result, there will be no formal march past and other activities that usually accompany such celebration.
“Trade, Labour Unions, schools and other stakeholders who usually participate in these activities on the Independence Day are by duty put on notice by this announcement.
“Government wishes all Edo people Happy Independence Day and urges all lawful citizens to mark the celebration in accordance with extant laws in the State”.
