NIGERIA, ABUJA – Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has expressed deep grief over the death of young journalist, Somtochukwu Maduagwu, describing the incident as “unfortunate and painful.”
In a statement posted on her official Facebook page, the First Lady lamented that Maduagwu’s life was cut short at her prime, leaving a void in the journalism profession and in society.
“I woke up this morning to the sad news of the untimely death of one of our brilliant minds in journalism. Her death is painful and quite unfortunate,” Tinubu stated.
She extended her condolences to the Chairman of Arise Media Group, Chief Nduka Obaigbena, as well as Maduagwu’s family, colleagues, and loved ones, urging them to remain steadfast in faith during the difficult period.
According to Tinubu, the loss of a young professional in such tragic circumstances underscores the need for stronger protection of citizens, especially those in the media who play vital roles in shaping national discourse.
The First Lady stressed the ethical responsibility of government and society to ensure justice, calling on security agencies to apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators without delay. “It is my hope and prayer that the perpetrators will be apprehended and brought to book,” she declared.
