A Nigerian Pastor Emmanuel Adebayo is now being held in custody on suspicion of murdering his tenant Toyin Olatunji.
On Thursday, a magistrates’ court in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, issued a remand order for the 56-year-old preacher.
The pastor of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Adebayo was detained at his home in relation to the death of the 50-year-old woman.
According to the prosecutor, Abdulateef Suliaman, the defendant committed the crime on April 4, 2023, at 14 Moferere Street Owe-Akala in Akure, at three o’clock.
The defense attorney said that when the two got into a fight, the defendant forcibly killed the woman by pushing her to the ground out of rage. The defendant lost consciousness and later passed away.
Sections 310 and 316 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ondo, 2006, are violated, Sulaiman continued.
In order to hold the defendant in correctional custody while the Director of Public Prosecutions, or DPP, issues an opinion, the prosecution pleaded with the court.
However, defense counsel asked the court for a postponement so that his client may submit a counter-affidavit in response to the prosecutor’s application.
The defendant was ordered to be kept in Olokuta Correctional Center, and the case was postponed until April 27 to await the judge’s decision.
