A financial analyst, Kalu Aja, has questioned the allocation of N393.29 billion for 1,477 streetlights in Nigeria’s 2025 budget, saying the country should be the “Light of the World” with such funding.

He made this known in his comment on X on Monday, reacting to BudgIT’s revelation of project insertions by the National Assembly in 2025 budget.

The amount budgeted per streetlight stood at N266 million, prompting Aja to remark, “With the amount of ‘streetlights’ in this 2025 budget, Nigeria is supposed to be the light of the world.

“1,477 streetlights for N393.29 billion, that’s N266 million per light. Are we installing the sun?” He noted.

Recalled that last week Monday, BudgIT revealed that the National Assembly’s inserted 11,122 projects worth N6.93 trillion into the 2025 budget out of a total budget of N54.99 trillion.

Truth Live News reports successive yearly budgets in Nigeria have contained projects with little or no impact on infrastructure.
