The Nigerian Postal Service has announced July 1, 2025, as the deadline to end cash transactions across all its offices nationwide, as part of reforms aimed at transforming the organization into a more innovative and digitally driven institution.
NIPOST’s management said this move is designed to align NIPOST with global best practices, Nigeria’s evolving digital economy, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“We are assuring Nigerians of a revitalized NIPOST that delivers superior service and embraces the future,” NIPOST stated.
A key highlight of the reform package is the transition to a fully cashless system.
“A major highlight of the reform package is the transition to a fully cashless system. Beginning July 1, 2025, all post office counters nationwide will no longer accept cash payments for their services. Customers will be required to use approved electronic channels for all transactions,” the agency stated.
“This is a crucial step in our modernization journey, one that ensures safer, faster, and more transparent service delivery,” NIPOST added.
This development builds on previous efforts to reduce cash transactions, including a 2019 directive by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy to suspend cash payments in NIPOST offices nationwide.
