The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced that the Warri–Itakpe Train Service will resume operations on October 29, 2025, following weeks of suspension to allow for essential maintenance and safety upgrades.
In a statement issued in Warri, Delta State, the NRC said the temporary halt was necessary to carry out “critical repairs, maintenance, and system checks on the track and rolling stock to ensure the comfort, reliability, and safety of passengers.”
The corporation added that its online booking portal will reopen at 12 noon on Monday, October 27, giving travellers 48 hours to purchase tickets before the service officially resumes. Passengers have been advised to secure their tickets early, either online or at designated stations.
According to the NRC, the train service will initially operate with seven coaches — six standard class and one business class.
A new timetable reflecting temporary speed restrictions (TSR) for safety and operational monitoring will also be released on Monday.
“The corporation sincerely apologises to its esteemed passengers and stakeholders for the inconveniences experienced during the suspension period and appreciates their patience and understanding,” the statement read in part.
The NRC’s Managing Director, Kayode Opeifa, assured the public of the agency’s commitment to delivering safe, reliable, and efficient rail transport services across the country.
He reaffirmed that the corporation remains dedicated to improving passenger confidence and advancing Nigeria’s modern rail network.
