Governor Godwin Obaseki extended his heartfelt solidarity to the citizens of Edo State and Nigeria at large, acknowledging the profound challenges posed by the persistent escalation in the cost of living, which has inflicted considerable hardship on the populace.
Truth Live News gathered that Governor Obaseki affirmed the steadfast commitment of his administration to implementing sustained measures aimed at alleviating the prevailing suffering and adversity. This assurance was conveyed during his reception of the Edo State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and allied Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) at the Government House in Benin City.
Governor Obaseki, ably represented by Hon. Chris Nehikhare, the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, alongside Mr. Crusoe Osagie, the Special Adviser on Media Projects, expressed solidarity with the peaceful demonstrators, recognizing their concerns regarding the exacerbating cost of living attributed to the removal of fuel subsidies by the Federal Government.
He asserted the government’s empathetic stance and proactive initiatives to mitigate the impact of rising prices, particularly on essential commodities. Emphasizing ongoing efforts to address food price inflation, the governor recounted the administration’s multifaceted strategies aimed at fostering agricultural productivity, enhancing transportation infrastructure, and facilitating access to markets.
Furthermore, Governor Obaseki affirmed his administration’s resolve to amplify the voices of the populace by conveying their grievances to the President, emphasizing the paramount importance of safeguarding the welfare of Edo State residents amidst economic challenges.
In solidarity, Comrade Odion Olaiye, the Chairman of NLC, Edo State Chapter, echoed the sentiments of widespread discontentment, urging governmental intervention to alleviate the prevailing hardships and ensure the sustenance of livelihoods.
