In a statement released to mark the commencement of the Holy Month of Ramadan, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, the Governor of Edo State, has called on Muslim faithful to prioritize good neighborliness and kindness as they observe the fasting period.
Governor Obaseki emphasized the significance of the Ramadan season, stating that it should be a time for soulful reflection, devotion, prayers, and caring for one another. He urged the Muslim community to uphold the virtues of Islam by demonstrating love and compassion to all members of society.
Addressing the challenges faced by many amid economic difficulties, Governor Obaseki highlighted the importance of extending a helping hand to the needy, particularly in these trying times. He stressed the need for solidarity and unity, emphasizing that the Ramadan season provides a unique opportunity to foster bonds and exhibit compassion.
“As the Muslim faithful embark on Ramadan, I implore you to uphold the virtues of Islam by showing love and compassion to all. It is a time to show good neighborliness and extend a helping hand to the needy in society, especially in these trying times,” Governor Obaseki stated.
He further acknowledged the economic challenges faced by a significant portion of the population, urging citizens to approach the Ramadan period with a sense of solemnity and empathy. The governor emphasized that demonstrating love during this season is not only a religious duty but also a practical way to contribute to the well-being of the community.
“The Ramadan season is coming at a time when many people are faced with dire economic challenges. It is best to show love this period as we approach the period solemnly. Ramadan provides us an opportunity to bond and show love to our friends and acquaintances, and the current season calls for such,” he added.
