A glimmer of hope emerged in the abduction crisis at Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA) as one of four kidnapped students, Fahad Muhammad, was rescued on Sunday, while security forces press on to free the remaining three, intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama on Monday.
Fahad Muhammad, a 20-year-old 100-level Computer Science student, regained his freedom following relentless search-and-rescue operations in the area. “Efforts were being sustained by troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA to locate and rescue the three others still in captivity,” the sources confirmed, underscoring the military’s determination to resolve the ordeal.
The three students still held captive are Adewale Bolaji Ajayi, 23, from the Department of Computer Science; Emmanuel Michael, 24, and Favour Michael, 22, both from the Department of Food Management Science. The first-year students were seized on Saturday when armed gunmen stormed their residence in Dutsin-Ma, plunging the university community into distress.
Security operatives are actively tracking the kidnappers’ movements, with sources indicating that operations to secure the safe release of the remaining captives are ongoing. The rescue of Fahad Muhammad has bolstered hopes, but anxiety persists as the search continues for the others in this high-stakes mission.
