Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen may face a significant fine and potential match ban due to his unruly behaviour following Galatasaray’s 2-1 loss to Beşiktaş at the Tupras Stadium on Saturday.
Recall that after the final whistle of the Istanbul Derby, tensions flared up between the Galatasaray star and Beşiktaş fans.
Osimhen, angered by the fans’ chants, reacted impulsively at that moment.
A post on X (formerly Twitter) by Fener Globa stated that Osimhen’s gesture towards the Beşiktaş fans could be deemed unsportsmanlike conduct according to football regulations.
Typically, the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) or UEFA may impose a fine, warning, or match penalty for such unruly behaviour.
Although the referee was unable to intervene at the time, as the incident occurred after the match, retrospective penalties are possible with video evidence.
Given that this is considered a medium-level offence, Osimhen could face a fine ranging from €5,000 to €20,000 or a one to three-match ban.
Nevertheless, since Osimhen is currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli, any financial penalties could ultimately provide Napoli with funds to reinvest in their team.
