Osogbo, Osun State
In a stunning political move that is bound to ripple across Nigeria’s political landscape, the Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in 2027 and Governor Ademola Adeleke for re-election in 2026.
Truth Live News gathered the August endorsement was contained in a communique issued after a high-level stakeholders’ meeting held at the Government House, Osogbo. The document, made available to journalists on Tuesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, was jointly signed by Governor Adeleke, former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, PDP State Chairman Sunday Bisi, Senator Lere Oyewumi, and 24 other prominent party leaders.
The communique minced no words in berating members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for their open hostility to Governor Adeleke’s rumored defection, describing it as “politically immature” and “deeply disrespectful.” It stressed that the governor had remained loyal to the PDP, despite misgivings within and outside the party, and that the insults from APC leaders only reinforced the decision to solidify PDP loyalty in Osun.
“Some APC members went on national television and social media to castigate Governor Adeleke, forgetting that politics requires strategy, not slander. Their outburst showed a lack of political depth and confirmed the wisdom behind staying the course with the PDP,” the communique stated.
In a surprise turn, the PDP further declared its support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid, referencing the president’s ancestral roots in Osun State.
“The PDP in Osun State recognizes the fact that Osun is the ancestral home of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. As such, we adopt and endorse him for re-election in 2027,” the communique boldly read.
Analysts are calling the development unprecedented, a sitting PDP-led state endorsing an APC president, yet the party insists it is not about party lines but “strategic alignment in the national interest.” Insiders suggest the move also serves as a calculated warning shot to factions within the APC eyeing Adeleke’s seat.
The communiqué concluded with clear directives:
Governor Adeleke and all PDP members are to remain resolute within the party.
The PDP leadership is tasked with cascading the resolutions across all local and ward structures.
The Governor is urged to press forward with the Five-Point Development Agenda, without distraction.
This dual endorsement could mark a seismic shift in Nigeria’s political alliances, particularly in the South West, as both PDP and APC loyalists recalibrate their strategies.
By embracing Tinubu and standing firmly behind Adeleke, the Osun PDP has thrown a calculated political gauntlet, signaling a new era of cross-party pragmatism, homegrown alliances, and political survival instincts. Whether this daring maneuver pays off in 2026 and 2027 remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: Osun politics just became the national battleground to watch.
