Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has called on the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to assist in identifying instances of salary padding and ghost workers within the state’s civil service.

Otti, during a meeting with the state council of the NLC, noted the ongoing issue of individuals collecting salaries without performing work duties, hence, called for the need for collective action to address such malpractices.

He stressed his administration’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for citizens and attracting businesses back to the state, citing infrastructural improvements as a key focus.

Otti assured that efforts are underway to implement the N35,000 wage award approved by the federal government for workers.

In response, the state chairman of NLC, Ogbonnaya Okoro, urged the governor to address various challenges faced by workers, including implementing the approved wage bill, resolving salary arrears, and addressing issues such as the alleged victimization of workers.

Okoro commended Otti for his administration’s consistency in paying salaries to Abia workers on time.
