NIGERIA, CALABAR – Governor Bassey Edet Otu, has dissolved the Board of the Cross River State Local Government Service Commission following findings of alleged abuse of office and employment racketeering in the commission’s recruitment exercise.
The action was announced on Monday in a statement by Linus Obogo, Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, who confirmed the governor’s approval for the board’s immediate dissolution.
Obogo said the reports uncovered “a betrayal of public trust and an affront to the ethics of service,” prompting swift intervention from the governor to protect institutional integrity.
He added that the compromised recruitment process remains suspended as earlier directed. He explained that the government will conduct a fresh, transparent and merit-driven exercise consistent with its ethical standards.

Meanwhile, the Cross River State Ministry of Establishments, Training and Pensions has rescheduled the compulsory examination earlier fixed for November 20 and 21. The ministry cited logistical challenges for the postponement.
In a public service announcement issued by Permanent Secretary Donatus Ejemot Esu, the examination will now hold on December 8 and 9 at 8:00 a.m. daily across designated centres.
The announcement listed the centres as Calabar Preparatory School, Etta Agbor; Government Secondary School, Ikom; and Government Secondary School, Igoli, Ogoja.
Esu directed all candidates to appear with their original printouts, tellers and identity cards, stressing that compliance with instructions will ensure a smooth exercise.
The governor, according to Obogo, reaffirmed his zero tolerance for corruption and promised continued efforts to restore public trust in government agencies.
He maintained that safeguarding due process remains a central priority of the administration, adding that public institutions must reflect transparency and accountability at all times.
