The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticised the Federal Government after its national headquarters, Wadata Plaza, was sealed by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).

Authorities say the shutdown was due to 28 years of unpaid ground rent. But the PDP insists the move is politically motivated and an attempt to stifle opposition voices.

“This is a clear attempt to undermine democracy,” said Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum during an emergency caucus meeting on Monday evening. The gathering, which took place at the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, was hastily arranged following the closure of the headquarters.

Damagum accused the government of abusing power and acting irresponsibly.

“If they want to arrest us, we’re ready. But we won’t be silenced,” he declared.

He warned Nigerians to see the action not as a legal dispute over rent, but as part of a broader effort to weaken opposition parties and democratic institutions.

The sealing comes amid rising internal tensions within the PDP, including a rift between party leaders and the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike.

Wike recently pulled out of reconciliation talks, accusing other party figures, including Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, of dishonesty.

Monday’s emergency caucus was attended by prominent PDP figures including Governor Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Governor Seyi Makinde (Oyo), former Senate President Bukola Saraki, and other senior members.

The meeting, which started at 5:30 PM, has been adjourned until Tuesday morning. A special committee has been tasked with presenting recommendations to guide the party forward.

Meanwhile, there are reports that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, originally scheduled for Tuesday, may be postponed to allow more time for internal discussions.
