The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the factional National Chairman, Kabiru Turaki, on Monday stormed the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja to lodge a formal complaint against the factional National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu.

The move came barely hours after Anyanwu, a staunch ally of Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, publicly announced plans to convene separate Board of Trustees (BoT) and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings on Tuesday at the party’s National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja.

Sources close to Turaki’s camp described the police visitation as a preemptive measure to forestall what they called “an illegal takeover” of the party secretariat and disruption of the PDP’s fragile peace process.
The PDP has been fractured along pro-Wike and anti-Wike lines since the 2023 general elections, with parallel leadership structures operating in defiance of court orders and internal reconciliation efforts.

As at press time, Turaki was still being attended to by senior police officers at the Louis Edet House, while Anyanwu’s faction insisted the scheduled meetings would proceed as planned.

The development has further heightened tensions within Nigeria’s main opposition party, raising fresh concerns about its unity ahead of future elections.
