Chief Jude Ezenwafor, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) flag-bearer for the Anambra State governorship election, narrowly escaped death after being shot by unknown assailants in Abuja on Friday night.

The attack occurred in the busy Wuse II area as Ezenwafor, an Abuja-based real estate developer, was returning home following a meeting. Two associates accompanying him were also wounded. He is currently receiving medical care at a private hospital, where doctors are preparing to remove bullets from his body, according to reports

Ezenwafor was declared PDP’s candidate in April, emerging unopposed at the party’s primary for the November 8 election.

The motive for the shooting and the identity of the gunmen remain unclear. The FCT police have not yet issued any public update, and inquiries are ongoing.

Ezenwafor’s medical team reports that while he remains in critical condition, his life is no longer in imminent danger.

The attack has raised concerns over rising political violence, with the November 2025 governorship election approaching.
