Northern stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have endorsed former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Alhaji Tanimu Turaki, as their consensus candidate for the position of National Chairman of the party.

The announcement was made by the Chairman of the PDP National Convention Committee and Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, following a high-level meeting of key northern leaders and delegates ahead of the party’s national convention.

Governor Fintiri disclosed that the decision to present Turaki as a consensus candidate was reached after extensive consultations aimed at ensuring unity and stability within the party. He emphasized that the move reflects the northern caucus’s commitment to strengthening internal democracy and fostering a united front as the PDP prepares for upcoming electoral challenges.

Alhaji Tanimu Turaki, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and former presidential aspirant, is widely regarded as a bridge-builder with deep experience in governance and party administration. His endorsement is expected to shape the dynamics of the national convention, as stakeholders across other geopolitical zones weigh in on the party’s leadership direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.
