The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue North East Senatorial District (Zone A) has renewed its resolve to rebuild the party and prepare for a strong comeback in the 2027 general elections.
The party’s State Vice Chairman for Zone A, Hon. Abraham Waroh, led a caucus meeting at the residence of the late Chief Aker Gajir in Lessel, Ushongo Local Government Area, bringing together party executives, stakeholders, and representatives from all seven local governments in the zone.
The caucus expressed deep concern over the worsening security situation in Benue, particularly the continued attacks by armed herders, describing the violence as a grave threat to the existence of Benue communities.
The meeting urged Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration to act swiftly to restore peace and protect ancestral lands, while also reiterating firm support for the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law of 2017.
The PDP demanded that the state government fully implement the law without compromise, pay outstanding salaries, pensions, and gratuities, and grant full autonomy to local governments.
The party also criticized Governor Alia for not fulfilling his promise to return internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their homes, noting that the number of displaced persons has significantly increased two years into his administration.
As part of its rebuilding strategy, the caucus resolved to replicate its expanded caucus structure at the local government and ward levels, compiling a comprehensive list of grassroots caucuses to strengthen participation and unity within the party.
The PDP Zone A Caucus warned members against engaging with groups or individuals who could jeopardize the party’s cohesion and passed a vote of confidence in Chief Samuel Ortom, recognized as the leader of the party in the state.
The PDP in Benue reaffirmed its commitment to reclaiming power in 2027 and repositioning the state for growth, peace, and development, with a renewed focus on rebuilding the party and addressing the state’s challenges.
