Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate for the 2023 presidential election, has denied rumors of his exit from the party, stating that he has never thought of leaving.
Obi addressed stakeholders during the National Executive Council meeting in Abuja, reacting to speculations linking him to other parties like the Social Democratic Party and the Peoples Democratic Party.
The meeting was summoned by Obi and Abia State Governor Alex Otti following the Supreme Court’s decision to sack Julius Abure as the Labour Party’s National Chairman.
Obi emphasized that the Labour Party is open to discussions with other parties ahead of the 2027 general election, but such discussions must involve party stakeholders, not just him.
He assured that the Labour Party will be a strong force in the future, despite current challenges, and encouraged members to work together to build the party from the ward to the national level.
Obi stressed the importance of inclusivity within the party, stating that every member is free to contest for positions, and decisions should be made collectively by stakeholders, not just individual leaders.
This approach, he believes, will strengthen the party and ensure its success in future elections.
