The Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has called on the military to act professionally and impartially in the upcoming off-season elections.
He made this call during a courtesy visit by General Christopher Gwarbin Musa, the 18th Chief of Defence Staff of Nigeria, to the Government House in Port Harcourt.
Sir Fubara emphasized the need for a peaceful environment and transparency during the electoral process, stating that this was crucial for the democratic process in Nigeria.
The governor further highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to free and fair elections and the prevention of intimidation or molestation during the election period.
He commended the Army, Navy, Airforce, and the Nigerian Police for their contributions to maintaining security in Rivers State.
He also addressed the recent political crisis in the state, assuring that it would be resolved amicably to allow the state to progress.
In response, Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Gwarbin Musa pledged the military’s commitment to maintaining peace and preserving Nigeria’s unity.
He promised to prosecute any officer compromising the election process and acknowledged Rivers State’s strategic importance in Nigeria’s economic development, vowing to protect national assets and combat crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism.
