The Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Sunday launched three new trains.

Sanwo-olu said the addition of these trains willdouble the current passenger capacity on the Blue Line, significantly enhancing service delivery for commuters.

“It’s a step forward in our efforts to make the daily commute in Lagos less stressful and more reliable,” Sanwo-Olu said.

The governor also disclosed that the state is moving ahead with plans to extend the Blue Line to Okokomaiko, with the project expected to be completed in 2026. He praised Lagosians for their continued support and patience as the government works to transform the state’s transit infrastructure.

First launched in September 2023, the Lagos Blue Line initially operated 12 daily trips. After a brief suspension in October of the same year, services resumed with an increased frequency of 54 trips per day, signaling growing demand for the route.

The recent delivery marks a significant milestone in the ongoing development of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) project — a key pillar of the government’s long-term plan to decongest traffic and modernize public transport.

As the state anticipates further expansions and system upgrades, commuters can expect more reliable service and improved coverage in the months ahead.
