A 69-year-old retired Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Yahuza Magaji, and his 17-year-old companion, Abba Sani, have been arrested by the Nigerian Police Force in Delta State for illegally possessing firearms and ammunition.

The dramatic interception occurred during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Asaba-Benin Expressway near the National Open University in Onicha-Ugbo, Aniocha North Local Government Area.

Intelligence sources informed Zagazola Makama that officers from the Dragon Patrol Team 02 halted a Navy Blue Sharon Space Bus (Reg. No. DKA 408 LM, Kaduna) and uncovered a chilling haul. “Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered seven pump-action guns and 1,600 cartridges hidden beneath the back seat,” the source revealed.

Magaji, who identified himself as a retired DSP, admitted to purchasing the weapons in Onitsha, Anambra State, claiming he was transporting them to Kaduna State. Both he and Sani are now in custody as police probe the motive behind the arms shipment. The arrest underscores ongoing efforts to curb illegal arms trafficking in the region.
