Police Exhume Decomposing Body Of 21-Year-old Girl From Shallow Grave, Arrest Suspected Killer In Edo

Operatives of the Family Unit of the Edo State Police Command have exhumed the decomposing remains of one Osato Festus Edogiaweria, 21, from the grave.

She was said to have been murdered and buried in a shallow grave by her boyfriend, Joshua Osaigbovo, 31, at Iyanomon Community in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.

A statement by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Yamu, revealed that the 21-year-old victim was reported missing by her mother, Mrs Ojo, at Aduwawa Police Division, on April 25, 2025.

Following thorough investigation and technical intelligence, the operatives arrested the suspect at Iyanomon community in Ikpoba-Okha LGA in connection with the crime on 18th June, 2025.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to having invited the said Osato Festus (now deceased) to his residence on 27th April, 2025 and in the course of their stay, had an altercation that led to a fight where the deceased fell, hit her head on the ground and died.

“He further confessed that he took the dead body of the lady in a wheel barrow to a bush nearby, dug and buried her in a shallow grave a few meters away from his residence,” Yamu said.

He further disclosed that on Friday, June 20, 2025, the suspect led Operatives to the shallow grave at Iyanomon community where the remains of the girl was exhumed following all necessary procedures.

He added that suspect would be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.
