The Nigeria Police Force has issued a warning to individuals planning protests demanding the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, cautioning them to steer clear of Aso Rock and its surrounding areas.

Force spokesperson CSP Benjamin Hundeyin said in a statement from Abuja that the warning follows a Federal High Court order prohibiting demonstrations around key government locations in the capital.

According to Hundeyin, the court, in a ruling on 17 October in the case Federal Republic of Nigeria vs. Omoyele Sowore & Others, barred protests within and around Aso Rock Villa, the National Assembly Complex, Force Headquarters, the Court of Appeal, Eagle Square, and Shehu Shagari Way.

“All intending protesters and counter-protest groups are strongly advised to avoid restricted areas and to refrain from any act capable of provoking confrontation or disturbing public order,” he said.

The police said officers have been directed to ensure the free flow of traffic, protect lives and property, and maintain security across the Federal Capital Territory.

Hundeyin added that anyone who uses a protest as a cover to incite violence, damage property, or engage in acts of terrorism would face arrest and prosecution. Those inciting unrest through social media or other platforms, he warned, would also be investigated using digital evidence.

Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has reportedly ordered the Commissioner of Police in the FCT to enforce the court order strictly, deploying officers strategically across sensitive areas.

Hundeyin urged organisers to express grievances through lawful channels rather than street demonstrations, assuring residents that adequate security measures were in place to protect law-abiding citizens.
