Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday, August 7, 2025, held a high-level telephone conversation with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Truth Live News confirmed that during the call, Putin briefed Ramaphosa on key outcomes from his recent meeting in Moscow with U.S. Presidential Envoy Stephen Whitcoff. Ramaphosa, in turn, expressed appreciation for the detailed updates and reiterated South Africa’s readiness to continue playing a role in fostering dialogue on global issues.

The Russian leader warmly acknowledged Africa’s well-known peace initiative, championed by several African nations, including South Africa, as a credible pathway toward resolving the protracted Ukrainian crisis.

Beyond Ukraine, the two leaders discussed strategies to deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership between Russia and South Africa, exploring new areas of cooperation in trade, technology, and energy.

Both sides agreed to sustain direct communication, with analysts noting that the discussion’s potential outcomes could present immense opportunities for Nigeria. As Africa’s largest economy and a strategic political voice, Nigeria stands to benefit from stronger Russia–Africa ties, especially in trade diversification, defense cooperation, and energy sector investment.

If these diplomatic overtures translate into concrete action, observers say, they could mark another step toward a more influential African role in shaping global affairs.
