A court in Abuja has granted bail to Sammy Ojeogwu, the brother of Nigerian actress Regina Daniels, after spending several days in detention.
Ojeogwu was arrested in Lagos last week before being transferred to Abuja for investigation over allegations ranging from criminal conspiracy and trespass to assault, intimidation, theft and cyberbullying.
According to the spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, Ojeogwu was accused alongside three other suspects, and had reportedly ignored repeated invitations from the police before his arrest.
The case is linked to the ongoing public dispute between Regina Daniels and her husband, Senator Ned Nwoko. The couple’s marital crisis escalated in October after a video went viral showing Daniels tearfully accusing Nwoko of domestic violence. Nwoko later claimed his wife was struggling with drug and alcohol issues, while Daniels responded suggesting he was also involved.
Daniels’ family had earlier accused Nwoko of influencing Sammy’s arrest, a claim that sparked reactions among Nollywood stars. Actress Mercy Johnson publicly questioned the legality of the arrest and called for his release.
Actress Doris Ogala confirmed the bail on Monday, sharing a video online showing the Daniels family including Regina’s mother leaving the court premises. Ojeogwu’s bail was set at ₦5 million, though other conditions have not yet been disclosed.
He was previously held at Keffi Prison by order of a magistrate court in Dutse before being later transferred to Suleja Prison.
