Sergio Ramos has backed Kylian Mbappé to win the Ballon d’Or award this year.
Ramos admitted that even though Mbappé did not win major titles this season, he deserves to take the award home due to his impressive performances.
The two players spent two years together at Paris Saint-Germain between 2021 and 2023.
Ramos now plays for Monterrey in Mexico, while Mbappé has moved to Real Madrid.
In his debut season with Real Madrid, Mbappé won the Super Cup and the Intercontinental Cup, and finished the campaign with a record-breaking 43 goals in 56 games, winning the European Golden Shoe.
According to Ramos, “I [will] always give it to Mbappé. It’s a decisive trophy, but you never know what the criteria are for the Ballon d’Or.”
Ramos added that Mbappé’s goal-scoring record and individual awards make a strong case for him to win the Ballon d’Or.
Ramos noted that while other players have won leagues and cups, the Ballon d’Or is an individual award, and Mbappé’s achievements make him a worthy candidate.
