The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has further pressured the Federal Government to settle outstanding two months’ salaries owed to its members.
SSANU members rose from their 51st National Executive Council meeting held at the Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, Kano State, with a determination to ensure the payment of the salaries.
The union bemoaned the poor welfare of university workers, especially the new trend of salary delays, and urged the Federal Government to demonstrate good faith and commitment to restoring industrial harmony within the university system.
“NEC strongly condemns the continued withholding of salaries of SSANU members who participated in the 2022 industrial action,” SSANU National President Comrade Mohammed Ibrahim said.
The union also decried the persistent delay in salary payments to federal universities, often weeks after other federal workers have been paid, describing the practice as discriminatory and unjust.
SSANU equally expressed concern over the inequitable allocation of the N50 billion earned allowance, with only 20% allotted to non-teaching unions, and called for a redress of the injustice.
The union also discussed the prevailing insecurity in the country, urging the government to declare a national emergency and instil professionalism among security agencies.
