President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday evening met with Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), the immediate past Sole Administrator of Rivers State, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. Ibas arrived at Aso Rock around 5:50 p.m., accompanied by Finance and Economy Minister Wale Edun and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Chairman Ola Olukayede.

The meeting comes barely a week after the expiration of the six-month emergency rule in Rivers State, during which Ibas was appointed by the President to oversee the state following the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and the state House of Assembly. Tinubu lifted the emergency last Thursday, directing the reinstatement of the elected officials.

The Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, has announced plans to investigate government spending during the emergency period, heightening interest in Ibas’s closed-door discussions with the President and key federal officials.
