President Bola Tinubu has nominated Dr. Bernard Mohammed Doro, a seasoned UK-based healthcare expert from Plateau State, as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The nomination, forwarded to the Senate for urgent confirmation, aims to plug the gap left by Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, who stepped down as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction after his election as All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman in July.
The announcement, detailed in a State House press release, underscores Tinubu’s push for technocrats with diaspora ties to tackle Nigeria’s pressing humanitarian challenges amid economic strains and regional insecurities.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, confirmed the development, stating, “President Bola Tinubu has forwarded a letter to the Senate seeking the confirmation of Dr Bernard Mohammed Doro from Plateau State as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
Born on January 23, 1969, in Kwall, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, Doro brings over two decades of multidisciplinary expertise.
A holder of degrees in Pharmacy and Law, an MBA in IT-driven business strategy, and a Master’s in Advanced Clinical Practice, he serves as an Independent Prescriber and Advanced Clinical Practitioner in the UK’s National Health Service (NHS). His frontline roles span urgent care, walk-in centres, general practices, and hospitals, blending clinical acumen with strategic leadership in pharmaceutical management and community development.
Beyond medicine, Doro has championed youth mentorship and social impact programs across Nigerian diaspora circles and local communities. He recently contributed to the Nigerian Diaspora Investment & Cultural Summit 2024 in Birmingham, fostering ties between expatriates and homeland initiatives.
Rumors swirl of his potential 2027 bid for Plateau North Senatorial District, though he has yet to declare.
If screened and approved by the Senate—expected soon—Doro will be sworn in at the next Federal Executive Council meeting, injecting fresh vigor into poverty alleviation efforts.
Onanuga added that “the President expects the Senate to give due consideration to the nomination,” signaling confidence in Doro’s alignment with Tinubu’s renewal agenda.
As Plateau State, long plagued by ethno-religious tensions, gains renewed federal representation, stakeholders anticipate Doro’s role in bridging humanitarian gaps exacerbated by climate woes and displacement.
