Toba Owojaiye | Katsina, Nigeria
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with solemn dignity and national resolve, received the remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari in Katsina today, marking the final homecoming of one of Nigeria’s most defining post-independence leaders.
Touching down at Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Airport at 2:07 p.m., Buhari’s body, flown in from London after his passing on July 13 at age 82, was met with full military honours and the reverent silence of a grieving nation. Tinubu, flanked by Vice President Kashim Shettima, First Lady Remi Tinubu, and a host of governors, traditional rulers, and service chiefs, stood at attention as the flag-draped casket emerged.
”This is more than a farewell. It is a national salute to a man whose legacy is etched in our republic’s steel and soil,” said President Tinubu, his voice firm with emotion.
Truth Live News gathered that the convoy departed shortly after for Daura, Buhari’s hometown, where he will be laid to rest this evening according to Islamic rites. Citizens lined parts of the route in quiet solidarity, some waving flags, others shedding tears.
Born in 1942 and rising from military general to two-term civilian president, Buhari leaves behind a legacy of anti-corruption fervor, national security efforts, and a mixed but unforgettable economic imprint. Whether revered or criticized, his imprint on Nigeria’s democratic journey is indelible.
Today, Nigeria pauses, not in division, but in memory.
“He served. He sacrificed. He is home.”
