President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially signed the bill establishing the North-Central Development Commission (NCDC), as announced by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Tuesday’s plenary session.
Truth Live News gathered that the NCDC is tasked with addressing developmental challenges and promoting economic growth, reconstruction, and infrastructure rehabilitation in Nigeria’s North-Central region.
The bill underwent its third reading in the Senate in July 2024, marking a significant step in its legislative journey.
In the 2025 budget, the federal government allocated a total of ₦2.49 trillion to various regional development commissions, including the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), North-West Development Commission, and South-West Development Commission.
Prior to the NCDC’s establishment, the North-Central region was notably absent from these allocations, leading to concerns about marginalization. Groups such as the Northern Majority Alliance (NOMAL) and the North-Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum called upon the President and the National Assembly to address this oversight.
In response, President Tinubu expedited the signing of the NCDC bill into law, ensuring the North-Central region now has a dedicated commission to oversee its development initiatives.
