President Bola Tinubu has officially sworn in the newly appointed board of directors for the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited.

The swearing-in ceremony took place on Thursday in Abuja, marking a key leadership shift in Nigeria’s state-run oil company.

Recall that Bayo Ojulari had been named the new Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), replacing Mele Kyari, while Ahmadu Musa Kida takes over from Pius Akinyelure as the Non-Executive Chairman. Adedapo Segun was also confirmed as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

The appointments, first announced on April 2, are in line with the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), which mandates broad representation across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones.

The six newly appointed non-executive directors are: Bello Rabiu – North-West, Yusuf Usman – North-East, Babs Omotowa – North-Central (former MD of NLNG), Austin Avuru – South-South, David Ige – South-West, and Henry Obih – South-East

Additionally, Lydia Shehu Jafiya, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Finance, and Aminu Said Ahmed from the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, will serve on the board as representatives of their ministries.

Several senior government officials were present at the ceremony, including Finance Minister Wale Edun, Information Minister Mohammed Idris, and Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil) Heineken Lokpobiri.

The new board is expected to play a crucial role in guiding NNPC through ongoing reforms and strengthening its role in Nigeria’s economy.
