Troops of Operation Hadin Kai decisively repelled an ambush by Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on Wednesday, eliminating 13 insurgents along the Gubio–Damasak road in Mobbar Local Government Area, Borno.
The attack targeted a military convoy escorting vital humanitarian supplies to Damasak.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the ambush began with the detonation of two command Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), followed by intense gunfire from the terrorists. The troops responded with overwhelming firepower, swiftly neutralizing 13 terrorists. “In the ensuing exchange, 13 terrorists were neutralised instantly, while others fled in disarray. The troops then pursued the fleeing elements, further exploiting the area,” a source reported.
The operation yielded significant recoveries, including eight AK-47 rifles, ten magazines, a large cache of 7.62mm ammunition, a camel bag, rolls of detonating cord, and multiple primed IEDs. Despite the victory, one soldier sustained a minor injury and is stable, while four Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) tyres and two trucks were damaged in the firefight.
The source praised the troops’ professionalism, stating, “The escort mission was successfully completed, and the relief materials have since been secured and delivered to Damasak.” The operation underscores the military’s commitment to securing humanitarian corridors in the North-East, where Boko Haram and ISWAP remnants persist in remote areas.
Troops have intensified clearance operations to curb terrorist activities and ensure safe passage for aid. “The troops have sustained deliberate clearance operations in the general area to deny the terrorists freedom of action and to maintain secure corridors for humanitarian access,” the source added. Operation Hadin Kai continues to balance combat and humanitarian efforts, safeguarding vulnerable communities in Borno’s volatile border regions.
