Troops Thwart Bandits, Recover 1,000 Stolen Cattle in Border Clash

Troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) have neutralized two bandits and recovered approximately 1,000 rustled cattle during a fierce gun battle along the Taraba–Plateau border on April 25.

The clash followed an alert about 60 armed bandits, traveling on 30 motorcycles, who crossed from Plateau into Taraba to steal cattle from a Fulani settlement near Jebjeb.

Acting swiftly, troops from the 6 Brigade mobilized and collaborated with forces stationed at Jebjeb, who had already engaged the fleeing bandits. The combined forces pursued the criminals to Komodoro village in Taraba, where the bandits had retreated into Daji Madam Forest in Plateau. In the ensuing firefight, two bandits were killed, and the stolen cattle were secured.

The recovered cattle have been relocated to Jebjeb, awaiting handover to their rightful owners. This operation underscores the military’s commitment to curbing cattle rustling and banditry in the region, restoring security and protecting local livelihoods.
