US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that the country will impose tariffs on “external” agricultural products, effective April 2nd.
In a post on his official Truth Social account, Trump urged American farmers to prepare for the tariffs by focusing on domestic sales.
Trump wrote, “To the Great Farmers of the United States: Get ready to start making a lot of agricultural product to be sold INSIDE of the United States. Tariffs will go on an external product on April 2nd. Have fun!”
This announcement follows Trump’s previous declaration of a 25% tariff on Canada and Mexico, along with an additional 10% tariff on China.
The move has generated concerns among farmers, who are already bracing for the impact of these trade barriers.
