UNICAL Postpones Mock, CBT Exams Over ASUU Warning Strike, Sets New DateĀ

CROSS RIVER, CALABAR – The University of Calabar has postponed its scheduled Computer-Based Test (CBT) and oral examinations for postgraduate students due to the ongoing Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) warning strike.

In a memo dated October 16, 2025, the Provost of the College of Postgraduate Studies, Prof. E. U. Eyong, announced the postponement, citing the strike as the reason for the change in schedule.

According to the memo obtained from the College of Postgraduate Studies, the examinations initially fixed for October 17 and 18, 2025, have been moved to new dates later in the month.

Prof. Eyong stated that the mock examinations will now hold on Thursday, October 30, while the PGD and Non-Thesis Master’s exams will take place on Friday, October 31. The M.Sc and Ph.D. examinations are rescheduled for Saturday, November 1, 2025.

He expressed regret over the inconvenience caused by the adjustment, assuring candidates and staff of the university’s commitment to academic excellence despite the ongoing industrial action.

The provost also urged postgraduate students to stay informed and cooperate with the revised timetable while the administration monitors developments regarding the ASUU strike.

The memo, addressed to Deans, Heads of Departments, and Directors, emphasized that the decision was taken in the best interest of both staff and students to ensure smooth academic conduct when normalcy returns.
