The United States Mission in Nigeria has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic murder of Reverend Father Sylvester Okechukwu, who was abducted on Tuesday and later found dead in Kaduna State.
Father Okechukwu, pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church in Tachira, Kaura Local Government Area, was confirmed dead on Wednesday by the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan.
In a statement, the U.S. Mission strongly condemned the act of violence, describing it as “brutal and senseless.”
The mission extended its heartfelt condolences to the slain priest’s family, congregation, and the wider community mourning his loss.
“The U.S. Mission is distressed by the brutal and senseless killing of Reverend Father Sylvester Okechukwu in Kaduna State, Nigeria. We strongly condemn this horrific act of violence,” the statement read.
The mission called on Nigerian authorities to take swift action to ensure that the perpetrators are held accountable.
“Our thoughts are with the family and community during this time of profound grief. We call on the authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice,” the mission ended.
