The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Olanipekun Olukoyede, recently shared an extraordinary encounter that left him astonished at the prowess of a 17-year-old internet fraudster in the realm of information technology.
Following the conclusion of the boy’s trial, Olukoyede was moved to offer support for his education, recognizing potential beyond criminal activity.
During a press briefing held at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, Mr. Olukoyede recounted the incident, describing it as a revelation of both talent and misguided choices. He expressed admiration for the teenager’s proficiency in navigating complex technological systems, despite the illegal application of his skills.
“It was truly remarkable,” stated Olukoyede, visibly impressed. “Despite his involvement in cybercrime, the level of expertise he exhibited in IT was astounding. It served as a stark reminder of the need to redirect such talent towards constructive pursuits.”
“We cannot afford to squander the potential of our youth,” asserted Olukoyede. “By investing in education and mentorship, we can cultivate talent and channel it towards innovation and development.”
