After seven years in her captors den, Rebecca Sharibu, the mother of Leah Sharibu has commemorated her daughter’s 22nd birthday, which also marks her seventh year in captivity.

Leah, a Christian schoolgirl was abducted by Boko Haram in 2018 alongside 110 other students from the Government Girls’ Science and Technical College in Dapchi, Yobe State, on February 19, 2018.

While most of the girls were later released, Leah was reportedly held back for refusing to renounce her Christian faith.

In a heartfelt video shared Thursday on Open Doors UK’s social media, Mrs. Sharibu voiced her anguish over the prolonged separation, describing it as deeply painful.

Despite the years, she affirmed that her faith remains unshaken and expressed hope that God will still bring her daughter home.

She called on all people of faith and conscience to continue praying—not just for Leah, but for all who are imprisoned because of their religious beliefs.
