On Wednesday, a tragic accident unfolded on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State, resulting in two yet-to-be-identified passengers being flung into the lagoon and several others sustaining injuries.

A video circulating online, seen by Truth Live News, vividly depicts the Nigerian Marine Police engaged in a rescue operation to retrieve the two victims from the water.

The incident, involving an LT 18-seater with the license plate FKJ 872 YA, occurred near Adeniyi Adele, heading towards Lagos Island.

Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, the Lagos Territorial Coordinator for the National Emergency Management Agency, conveyed in a statement that the driver of the vehicle was speeding, leading to a loss of control which caused the vehicle to collide with the bridge railings.

The force of the impact ejected two passengers from the bus, plunging them into the Lagos lagoon below.

Farinloye further elaborated, stating, “The victims, an adult male and female, are currently being sought by the Marine Police.”

He added, “The injured individuals have been promptly evacuated to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.”
