NIGERIA, CALABAR – The University of Cross River State on Thursday hosted its 9th Inaugural Lecture, spotlighting ability in disability as a visually-impaired professor of Broadcasting delivered a highly acclaimed presentation.

Prof. Jacob Agba, celebrated by colleagues and students, examined the challenges slowing Nigeria’s transition from analogue to digital broadcasting, according to details on the lecture banner and reports from the event.

He spoke on the topic, “From Analogue to Digital Broadcasting: Uncorking the Lacuna in Audience Attention in the Search for Disambiguated Development,” stressing the urgent need for inclusive communication reforms.

The inaugural lecturer said Nigeria must address “communication gaps, theoretical inconsistencies and poor audience engagement” to achieve successful digital migration, as quoted by Dr. Alobo Ishmael Eba in a post-event note.

He explained that audience attention remains the most critical factor in digital broadcasting because “no communication succeeds without clarity, inclusiveness and adaptive messaging,” according to Eba’s documentation.

Prof. Agba highlighted his contributions to UNICROSS, including curriculum development, mentorship programmes and expansion of research capacity within the university’s media studies faculty.

He stated that “one out of every four lecturers in the Communication and Media Studies faculties of UNICAL and UNICROSS are my former students or mentees,” a claim that drew applause from attendees.

The professor’s comment underscored his long-term investment in human capital development, particularly in grooming young scholars who described him as a “pillar of academic discipline and resilience.”

University staff at the event told The Truth live news that Prof. Agba’s achievements reaffirm that disability does not hinder excellence when institutions provide a supportive learning and teaching environment.
