NIGERIA, CALABAR – The Cross River State Government has flagged off the distribution of smokeless cook stoves and wonder cooking pots to households across the state, reaffirming its commitment to a greener and healthier future.

The initiative, held at the Office of the Wife of the Governor, Moore Road, Calabar, was coordinated by the Cross River State Council on Climate Change and Green Economy Commission in partnership with the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI).

According to a post on the official Facebook page of the Cross River State Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Oden Ewa, the program aims to promote clean cooking energy, protect the environment, and improve the health of women and families.

Representing the First Lady, Rev. (Mrs.) Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, the speaker at the event described the initiative as an act of love for humanity and environmental care. She said every stove distributed “means cleaner air, healthier families, and a greener tomorrow.”

She emphasized that the project aligns with Governor Bassey Otu’s People First agenda, which focuses on welfare-driven and environmentally sustainable programs. The wonder pots, she said, would help women cook faster, save energy, and reduce smoke-related health issues.

Commissioner Ewa commended NASENI’s partnership, noting that the agency remains committed to advancing eco-friendly technologies that support Nigeria’s climate goals.

The event ended with the symbolic distribution of cook stoves and pots to beneficiaries, marking what officials described as “a practical step toward a cleaner, safer Cross River.”
