Former chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State council, Comrade Godwin Erhahon, has said that the former chairmen of the council are fortunate and blessed to have successors striving to improve and consolidate on their legacies.
He said this while unveiling the ultra modern gate installed at the entrance of the Oba Oguola Press Centre of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, in Benin by Dr Festus Alenkhe, the Chairman of the state council.
Comrade Erhahon said that not that successive chairmen have not impacted on the union’s infrastructure but having someone who is consolidating on their achievements, is worth celebrating.
“I do not have enough words to express my joy, pride and appreciation for this prestigious opportunity given me to unveil this ultra modern solid and beautiful gate.
“To hail the series of great achievements of the current Executive of our great Union led by Dr Festus Alenkhe is not to discredit any of us who served here before them rather, it is acknowledging how blessed we are to have successors who are striving to improve on our legacy even in our individual families, such generational prosperity is what we pray for.
“Therefore, join me to appreciate the visionary and productive leadership of our amiable, focus and goal-oriented council chairman, Comrade (Dr) Festus Alenkhe for the blessings he has become to our union”, Erhahon said.
While commending the chairman of the council for taking up the project as his own personal project, challenged other state councils of the union to come and understudy the leadership and public outreach strategy of Dr Festus Alenkhe by which he has achieved so much for the union within such a short time.
Also speaking, the Deputy National President of NUJ, Dr. Abimbola Oyetunde, commending the chairman of the council for embarking on such a laudable project, stressed that he has etched his name on gold in the history of the union.
On the part of the chairman of the council, Dr. Festus Alenkhe, he said he decided to take up the rebranding of the gate as part of his personal project and contribution to the union.
The chairman who said the sum of N9.5 million was expended on the job, added that, the gate will add to the aesthetics view of the building.
